This is it. This is the new loafer.

And if it's not, it should be. Nestled amongst Nicholas Kirkwood's fall 2011 collection, sandwiched between the signature architectural shapes and the heftily chunky wedges, you may not even notice it at first. As I said of Kirkwood's spring collection, there's been a feeling of late that the designer needs to hone in on a particular direction, to go back to a coherent story. If one style from fall reveals itself as the one its this new take on the loafer; and I can only hope this newfound refinement is something Kirkwood continues to pursue.
